Nash (guitar)
I was found abandoned in an old Gibson guitar case at the
back of the Marshall Amplifier factory when I was about 3 weeks
old and raised by feral cats. The only mementos I have of my
real parents are a plectrum and an ankle bracelet with the
name 'Layla' embroidered on it. A number of British Guitarists
(whom I cannot name for legal reasons) refused when asked to
compare their fingerprints with the one on the plectrum.
For real. I was born in Bristol England and raised in Bristol
until my early teens when I moved to Weston-Super-Mare, a seaside
resort town on the Bristol Channel. I started learning the
violin when I was about 8 and graduated to clarinet when I
was 11 or so. I played in various school orchestras over the
years until I reached my early teens when I went to live as
an exchange student in Germany for a couple of months and was
introduced to the electric guitar by the guy I was staying
with. I've stuck with that on and off ever since.
Following the usual formula I played in a few bands when I
was still at school. None of which even got as far as getting
a name but we had a lot of fun. Finally I got it together in
the early 80's with a band named Trover. We spent some time
in the studio and then started playing a mix of contemporary
rock and our own material in pubs and bars around the South
West of England, finally breaking up about 1984 as members
started getting married, having kids, etc..
There were two or three attempts to get another band together,
but apart from having a load of fun (and beer) rehearsing and
doing a few charity gigs and birthday parties nothing much
came of them.
I then gave up playing really. Apart from the occasional friend's
birthday party when a few of us would get a band together and
make some noise I did not really play my guitar until I moved
to the US in 2001 and met up with Marty and Marc. We started
jamming just for the fun of it and in time Junction 299 was
born. The rest will become a legend! - Steve |
